New Job Update
Posted by Kate on Saturday, October 30, 2004Hello All,
Just thought I would give you an update on my new job. So far, so good! I really like it. It is fun. I bind books with ribbon, drill holes, glue stuff, line stuff up perfectly, decide what covers should be fronts or backs, etc. Its like an arts & crafts class. I really like their designs - I am constantly thinking- wow thats pretty- wish I had one of those. So its pretty enjoyable for me.
Plus the people are really nice and it seems like everyone gets along really well. And we get to listen to XM radio, which is just the coolest thing ever. Any kind of music you could want and no commercials. I love it... wish you didn't have to pay for it, so I could have it at home as well.
Since people also seem to be wondering what the building is like I will try to describe it. It is in an old factory. On the first floor there are four main areas. The main room where we do most of the work is the biggest. There are about five workstations set up. There is a glue area, a paper cutting area, a ribbon binding area, a general assembly area, and an area for the accordian books. All of these areas are claimed by certain employees as their own, if they are the main gluer, paper cutter, etc. So that is where the person would keep their stuff.
Then there is the drill room. It is a small room with a few work tables and obviously the drill.
Another area is the offices, which has the main office, and offices for the owners. I should explain, when I say owners, I mean the husband and wife who own the company. The husband is the president and the wife is the office manager. They are really, really nice. They have a three year-old daughter, who is super cute.
And finally there is the shipping area, where they put everything in boxes to be shipped to stores. I haven't been in that area much, so it is hard to describe.
So that is the first floor. Then there is an upstairs, where the break room is. It is huge with a table and a foosball game. It has a fridge, microwave, sink, two toasters, lots of magazines, um, well, lots of stuff- it is a big room with a really high ceiling. There is also a very big vacant apartment on the second floor. I have also heard rumors of a basement, but I haven't been down there.
Any more questions?
