Employed
Posted by Kate on Thursday, October 21, 2004Hello All,
I am once again joining the workforce. I got a job at a book bindery! The make really cool handmade journals and albums. The interview process was pretty intense. I saw the ad on projo and looked up their website. I have actually seen their products before at my favorite store, Oop! So I called their number and the woman who answered said they were at the end of their hiring process, but if I wanted to go in that day and fill out an application, I could.
So I did, and I spoke a little with the studio manager. The next morning they called and asked me back for an interview. I told them I was free that day and could come in at 1:00. While I was there they had me sew up a binding on a book. They didn't really ask me very many questions.
Then they called me later that afternoon and asked me to come in the next day to "try out production" for four hours. So I did. I bound books with ribbon, put filler strips between pages, and put books in their final packaging. It was fun and they gave me a paycheck for it. I am going to get to learn everything about bookbinding. It is nice to work with my hands and move around and work with a team of nice people...
While I was there on the third day, the studio manager said that one of the owners was out of town, but that I would need to meet him before they could offer me the job. So I went back today to meet the other owner. He was really nice. So I came home and they called my references (I am assuming.) And they called me and told me they really want me to work there and offered me the job and I said yes.
So no one can call me a slacker anymore. I am once again employed.
