220 Grit

We recently finished our wood shop class at CCRI. What promised to be an 8-week Multiple-project class, turned into a 3 month one-project class. Our instructor, while skilled in his craft, was always late and unprepared for the class. Most of the time was spent waiting in line to use tools instead of actually building things. The final class we went to ended up being a competition with the other students to gather enough wood to make a cutting board.

Wooden Box
We did finish one project, a box. We each made one, and did a pretty good job. These were much more complicated than anything I'd ever done in junior-high woodshop class, with nail-guns and electric sanders. In junior-high, I seem to recall making a key-holder and a door-stop. ... but the instructor was great, so it was good time.

Originally I had wanted to take an automotive class at a different school, but it was cancelled last minute. To honor the class that never was, I made a small modification to my wooden box.
