Converter Catalyst

Posted by Patrick on Friday, May 14, 2004

My Check Engine Light has been on for, oh I dunno, the last 30 thousand miles or so. Having had it checked at Autozone, using their free OBD II scanner service, I discovered that the Check Engine Light was caused by a Tree-Hugging Emission thing, and not some piston-melting problem.

Well, that's all well and good, after reading some Celica related forums, I've discovered that my light is probably related to my Catalytic Converter:

Converting stuff

Now, because this part is connected with some kind of governemnt emissions program thing, it's covered under warranty up to 80,000 miles. Yesterday my car had 79,500 miles, so I figured I better get this thing checked out. Off to the dealership I go.

Lucky day, they replace the converter thing, and the malfunctioning oxygen sensor that caused the check engine light. So far, so good.

Celicas!
