Converter Catalyst
Posted by Patrick on Friday, May 14, 2004My Check Engine Light has been on for, oh I dunno, the last 30 thousand miles or so. Having had it checked at Autozone, using their free OBD II scanner service, I discovered that the Check Engine Light was caused by a Tree-Hugging Emission thing, and not some piston-melting problem.
Well, that's all well and good, after reading some Celica related forums, I've discovered that my light is probably related to my Catalytic Converter:
Now, because this part is connected with some kind of governemnt emissions program thing, it's covered under warranty up to 80,000 miles. Yesterday my car had 79,500 miles, so I figured I better get this thing checked out. Off to the dealership I go.
Lucky day, they replace the converter thing, and the malfunctioning oxygen sensor that caused the check engine light. So far, so good.
