Toyota Scrape-ica
Posted by Patrick on Sunday, February 15, 2004An open letter, to the knob who drove into my car:
Dear Nameless Driver,
Thank you for driving into my car, and for taking off all that unecessary paint. Clearly I was in your way, and shouldn't have been. I mean, I was parked on the far side of the lot, far away from other cars. My car prevented you from driving diagonally accross the spots, and for that I apologize.
And I'd also like to thank you for not leaving your name or contact information for me. I'm so glad you won't have to bear the burden of responsibility. I'd be so worried about you if you did! I mean, sure, it'll cost me more than a week's pay to get it fixed and if I filed an insurance claim it would be a mark against me, but as long as you're protected from the evils of "responsibility," I'll be able to sleep at night.
And you're right to think "hey, that's not a lot of damage," as you no doubt paused and thought about leaving your name, and then drove off to buy whatever you needed at Target that day. And it sure wasn't a lot of damage; I mean, hey, the car still started! I'm sure you would have stopped if you had knocked off the bumper or popped one of my tires. I trust your judgement here, nameless driver, to make that call.
So thank you, nameless driver, for making me realize the error in my ways. I'm glad you were able to scrape paint of my car, drive away, and not worry about it. I mean, if you actually had to stop and wait for me to come out.... perish the thought!
Sincerely, and kindest regards,
Patrick
