Phone Home

Posted by Patrick on Sunday, February 29, 2004

My Cingular phone's life has come to an end, with a useful battery life of just over a day and no way to check my messages, nor make a call longer than a few minutes, this phone has ceased to be useful. Once on the forefront of technological goodness just a few years ago, this phone is now antiquated and fails to perform it's sole function well (making calls).

The wall phone at my grandparents house, one of the first touch-tone phones ever produced, continues to work some three or four decades later. All the buttons work I assume, and calls are probably made regularly on it. While it does make me sound old, a phrase rings true here; "they are not built like they use to be."

Two years for the useful life of a cell phone? *sigh**.

Anyhow, Rockland-ave resident Kate found a pretty groovey deal on the "Interstate", a Samsung x-105 color phone for free (no silly rebates to fill out) on a 20 buck a month plan (which is plenty for me). It's got all sorts of cool features I need, but best of all, it actually makes and receives calls at Rockland-ave, something the ol' Cingular Nokia could never do.

Hopefully this phone will fare better than the last, but the current trend of disposable technology makes me feel pesamistic about this. For the time being it should serve me well though. It should serve Kate well, too, as she just picked one up herself.

If you don't have my new cell #, drop me an email.
