The Crazy Guy
Posted by Patrick on Wednesday, September 27, 2006Here's something I wanted to blog about before we moved, but I just ran out of time. Back all those weeks ago when we lived in New England....
I snapped the above photo moments before the whole thing ended, probably around 8am:
I arrived at work and found my route in blocked off by fire trucks and cop cars. I couldn't tell what the scoop was, but they were all surrounding the church adjacent to the office building. It was under some kind of renovation, so I assumed it was related to that.
I went into the office and found out from a co-worker that all the commotion around the church was caused by a man on top of the church. A man, high-on-something, had scaled the church via the scaffolding (used for the renovation) and stood on the roof of the church.
Not only that, but he also was dressed like Jesus, with a brown robe and a crown of thorns. He was ranting, preaching since around 2am, and the police officers and fire fighters could not convince him to come down.
Meanwhile, the management of the office building I worked in were scrambling to close the blinds of all the windows, so no curious office worker would tempt crazy guy to test his levitation skills. Of course, that just made us more curious and as soon as the management people left, we pulled the blinds open to continue watching this guy. I'm not sure if it made me a bad person to look at the guy, but he didn't jump, so it was all good I think.
I tried to take a camera-phone photo, but no luck. I managed to find a co-worker with a digital camera, and snapped the above photo. The man dressed as Jesus is standing on the right side of the pic. I couldn't hear him because of the glass, but I could tell he was still yelling, flailing his arms. Just after I snapped the photo, the tall ladder of the fire truck came up from the back of the man and he was pulled down.
So I guess it ended well enough. It was one of the more exciting events to occur near my office while I worked there. I couldn't find anything online about the guy, so I assume he was arrested. There were a lot of crazy people who walked around the building I use to work in, but this guy was the craziest.
