Altima
Posted by Kate on Saturday, September 16, 2006Here is the vacuum update, because I know you were all out there just waiting to hear what happened with our vacuum dilemma. I went out and bought the $40 Dirt Devil Dynamite that got great reviews. The number was slightly different, but it was basically the same model that everyone on the internet seemed to love. I got caught up in the hype and ignored the fact that didn't have a hose or any other features. We brought it home and I gave it a try.
Long before I was finished vacuuming my arm was killing me. You REALLY have to push this vacuum. It did do a great job of cleaning the floor. When I went to empty the canister I encountered the filter that you are only supposed to need to replace every six months to a year. It was already coated in dust and no amount of tapping was making it clean. It was paper and full of crevices, so there was no way to wash it or effectively get the dirt off it. Really I had only used it once and it was already looking like it needed replacing.
So we returned the whole vacuum to the store instead.
Then I bought the $80 Eureka Altima. So far, so good. It practically pulled me across the floor. It seemed to do a really good job of picking stuff up. The filter is foam and separate from the canister, so it is easy to empty the canister and then take out the filter and wash it in the sink. It has a hose with various attachments and even a duster. I haven't tried that out yet, as we don't have many actual surfaces to dust. It seems like a good machine and I am very happy that we decided to return the other machine and get this one and now I can stop thinking about vacuums.
