Vacuums
Posted by Kate on Saturday, September 09, 2006When we moved I had to make the decision to leave our vacuum behind. I gave it to my grandmother so that she would have an upstairs vacuum and wouldn't need to lug her vacuum up and down the stairs. So I was glad that it was going to a good home, but now I am in the position of needing to buy a new vacuum.
I wanted to do this intelligently and look up reviews and go to a store and buy one that was reasonably priced and going to work very well. This is apparently much harder than I thought it would be. All the reviews I can find are for slightly different models than I am seeing in the stores. And the opinions on similar models vary- a lot. One model, lets say 84601 is totally different from 84600 and people may love 84600, but it has different features from 84601. And then I can't find a single review of 84601. I spent a long time looking at reviews.
And then the prices are crazy! You can buy a vacuum for anywhere from $40 to $700! And you would assume that the more you paid the better it would be, but you would be wrong. People love the $40 vacuum. Tons of reviews, it works great, no one has had one break... So let's buy it, right? Um no, they don't sell that in stores around here. You would have to buy it online and then wait for them to ship it to you. Unfortunately I am feeling impatient and I think I may just go out to a store close my eyes and randomly pick a vacuum off the shelf.
