NORCAR: Just the FAQs
Posted by Patrick on Sunday, August 27, 2006The Great North Carolina Move of 2006: Frequently Asked Questions.
Question 1: Dude, what?
Answer 1: No Kidding, huh.
Question 2: Why?
Answer 2: Well, as much as we've enjoyed living at Rockland Ave, its time to move on. Also, we want a house, but many of them in the Southern New England area are totally out of our price range. By hundreds of thousands of dollars. We can't break into such an expensive housing market without putting our financial well-being totally on the line. Plus, we wouldn't have enough cash to keep this website afloat. Or Eat.
Question 3: Speaking of the website...
Answer 3: Rockland-ave.com will continue to operate with at least as much (if not more) posting frequency. We'll keep the same domain name, despite the distinct possibility of us not living in a house on a street named Rockland Avenue. It's all about the brand name, ya know? I'm hoping Kate and I can redesign the site soon after we get a permanent place to live. I say that a lot, and have a lot of half-done designs, though. Maybe moving to a distant land will help the creative juices flow.
Question 4: Do you have a house down there now?
Answer 4: Negative. We do have an apartment, a nice two bedroom, two bathroom first floor pad. Craigslist rules! We'll be there for a few months while we look for a more permanent structure to live in. The houses in North Carolina are way, way cheaper then they are around here.
Question 5: Know anyone down there?
Answer 5: No, but now you do! (Get it, because you probably know us?) We're trying hard to get people we know to move down there with us. Who knows how successful that will be. I have a couple of aunts who will be moving to NC in the coming months, but super-far-away in the western part of the state.
So no, we don't know anyone really, but from what we've read, people are pretty darn friendly down there.
Question 6: How will we get a hold of you?
Answer 6: We'll be sending out our mailing address real soon. Our Emails will remain the same, and I think our cell phones will be on for at least a week after we get down there, though that will have to change because T-Mobile has zero coverage in the Raleigh area.
We've purchased a webcam, so you'll be able to see us through instant messenging. Does anyone out there use Skype? You should. Tis free voice chat, in a cool way. Sign up, get a mic, and talk to us. It'll be just-like-being-there, except we'll be 14 hours away.
Question 7: Fourteen hours?
Answer 7: That's how long the drive is. It's a three hour plane ride though. Raleigh is cool because its less than a day's travel: Not having to stay over somewhere on the way down is a big plus.
Question 8: Los Gatos?
Answer 8: The cats, lucky for them, will be traveling with us. Kate went down to the local cat dope pusher vet and got some kitty-sized valium for them so they won't scream the whole ride down.
So those are some frequently asked questions. If I've missed anything, please post it in the comments. Posting will be kind of not-as-often-as-I'd like during the next two weeks as we get ourselves moved, but we should have internet as soon as we move in, so we'll return to normal posting then.
I'm now so completely tired that I cannot type any further. Moving far away is not for the weak. Without Kate's tireless effort and ability to do math, I would be screwed.
