Weezer-Foo, Twisted Style

Posted by Patrick on Tuesday, October 18, 2005

As Kate mentioned in her last post, I met up with Rudy, Mike and MattMiller on Saturday to see the Weezer / Foo Fighters show. I was pretty excited, as these are two bands that I've wanted to see live.

Rudy knew of a good parking spot, so we piled in Mike's VW Beetle and were on our way. A critical mistake was made when I didn't call shotgun. When we parked, I pushed the front seat forward, got my left leg out, and when I went to move my right leg out of the car, it hadn't quite cleared the underneath part of the front seat and when I turned, my foot did not. This caused a loud "pop" sound to emanate from my ankle.

Crap.

I twisted my ankle in a fierce way. I hobbled around for a few seconds, hoping it was just something that would pass on by, but no such luck. Walking even a short distance caused some crazy pain to shoot up my leg. Not wanting this to be an event-ending kind of the thing, the boys drove me up to the door where the concert was, and I hobbled to the first-aid station inside.

There the EMT's asked if I wanted to go to the hospital, which is silly for a twisted ankle. The guy took off my shoe, wrapped my foot, and quickly put my shoe back on, as the swelling was well underway. I could hear Weezer on stage already, and rushed out of there. Through the miracle of cell phones, I met up with the guys and slowly, hobbled my way down to the floor. What a night to have standing floor-seats and not seat-seats.

Weezer was quality. They played some familiar songs, and some songs from their new CD, which I just can't get into. Foo Fighters were great. I was more excited about Weezer, but the Foo put on a much better show. Lead singer Dave Grohl loves his job and it shows. Foo Fighters seem genuinely enthusiastic about their music, and that made it a quality show.

So I'm still hobbling around, but not as badly as on Saturday. I'm sure I'll be fine by tomorrow or the day after. An annoying reminder of my less-coordinated youth.
