4th on the 3rd
Posted by Kate on Monday, July 04, 2005Yesterday we went to my mom's to celebrate the the 4th, yes on the 3rd. We had some good food and chatted out on their deck, which had a nice ocean breeze. It was really a beautiful day, although we did have to keep scooching our chairs into the shade.
Then in the afternoon we boarded "Sunrise," their sailboat. We motored out towards the Mount Hope bridge and then put up the sails. Great views and it really was not as crowded out there this year as it has been in the past. My sister took some pictures so there is a chance I might be able to post some here.
Once we got into Bristol harbor we dropped anchor and my stepfather grilled us some chicken on the cool little grill that attaches to the side of the boat. We ate dinner and watched all the other boaters, and coast guard boats, and the super rich people in their mansion's backyards flying kites and having their own cookouts on the bay.
When the sun started setting the tiny fireworks all over the horizon began. We could see all the fireworks that individuals were setting off as well as all the different towns. It is really a sight to see. Newport had a particularly great show, miniature to us.
But then at 10:00 the Bristol fireworks started. They had another great display this year. They launched them from a different place this year, so they were not directly overhead, but we had a perfect view. Then we got in line with all the other boats and motored out of the harbor and back to the marina. Fun times.
So far we don't have any plans for today, but I am sure we will figure something out.
Happy 4th of July!
