Episode 3
Posted by Patrick on Tuesday, June 14, 2005Now that Kate and I have both seen it, I can freely post about the 3rd Star Wars movie, which you may have seen or heard about, if you've looked at a screen, or purchased a product in a store at any time during the last few months. Nothing is being held back in the media for this movie, not even Chewbacca speaking on the virtues of Pepsi.

Despite all the Star Wars related product placement on tv and in stores, it's refreshing to see a flick without any apparent product placement. Some would argue that the entire series of Star Wars flicks are a gigantic product placement scheme, designed to push toys and collectables, but it's nothing compared with blatent placements in other sci-fi movies.
I saw Episode 3 about a week after it came out, and was semi-horrified to have four people in full Jedi dress sit directly behind me, but they remained silent throughout, and didn't accost me with their light sabers. I saw it again last week with Kate, and we both liked it.

Despite some sketchy dialog, and minor plot-inconsitancies, it was a great movie. Gone is the kiddie pod-racing of Episode 1, and the mushy faux-makeout parties in Episode 2... now it's business. Light sabers are not held back, and limbs will be removed without notice. Anakin turns into a complete jerk, and Obi Wan feels a little betrayed. Wookies do their Wookish things, and clones are well on their way to becoming the Storm Troopers of tomorrow. The movie ties together the prequels with the sequels, detailing what happens to the Skywalker twins, and why Obi Wan hangs out in the desert.

Not much else to say on it. If you've seen the other 5 movies, you're nuts to miss this one (especially after the crapiness of Ep1). If you've never seen it, well, you'll be totally lost... but there sure are some cool space battles in the beginning, if you're into that sort of thing.
