This Old Rabbit
Posted by Patrick on Monday, June 21, 2004By next sunday, we'll be known as Mr. and Mrs. Rockland Ave.com. Posts will probably be a little light while we're away, but we promise to come back and continue the proud Rockland-ave.com tradition of fairly-consistent-posting.
In the meantime, I leave you with some old photos. Here's how my train of thought lead me to this:
While out driving, Kate and I saw a brand new Volkswagon Golf GTI with the VR6 engine cruising down the highway. This is a nice car, and if it weren't 25 large and prone to early-life electrical problems, I would definatly consider buying it. Especially the new R32 all-wheel drive model.
More recently, Rockland-ave residents Chris and Bob had a bbq, and invited Bob's mother. She was telling us about driving in Germany (where she's from), and talked about touring the BMW factory, and driving on the Autobahn.
I got to thinking about my old German car, which was my first vehicle, a 1984 VW Rabbit. Rabbits are what they use to call the Golf in America. My old man got it for me, fixed it up to a driveable status, and handed me the keys. Four gears, four cylinders, 2 doors, and lots of stickers and tape holding the thing together.
Here's some photographs:
Rust, stickers and lots of motor oil. This is 1996. This is the Rabbit.
