Dunk

Posted by Patrick on Friday, October 24, 2003

If you're a resident of southern New England, you know about Dunkies. In fact, I'm almost positive that you know where the closest Dunkin Donuts is in relation to your home/work/friend's place. Drive to work more than 20 minutes in the morning and count how many other drivers are sippin on that white styrofoam goodness. That dude in the BMW M3 that just cut you off... that's right, he's got a cup. The F-150 on the way to the construction site, they're scarfin donuts.

If there's one thing that brings all walks of life together, at least in a 150 mile radias of Rockland Ave, it's Dunkies. Blue Collar, White Collar, subcontractor, CEO; you all stop there at least once in a while. It's a social equalizer. A neutral ground where addictions and cravings are put to rest. Caffine and/or sugar.

So you say "Pat, please. I only drink Starbucks." And that's fine. I won't judge you on your coffee shop of choice. In fact, for a short time I even drank Starbucks daily when I had an in-shop-hook-up. (A bit to strong for me, but there's nothing wrong with free Machiatos in college). Anyhow... Dunkies has Latte's now, and Capachino and all that other foamy superstrong caffinated fun. Soon you'll be one of us, Starbucker.

I know where the closest Dunkin Donuts is in relation to my work. Always a line.... they have the velvet rope system in full effect there. And before you get there, you have to walk through the hobo/crazy-person gauntlet. I found a back way in there through an ally, but sometimes that's kind of scary too.

I made it through today, got a coffee and left. On the way out, some guy asked me for change, and normally I just kind of scury away with my head turned down, but today I him a 75 cents and I hope someone else did too so he could get a medium regular.
