Java Hut

Posted by Kate on Monday, January 03, 2005

Hello All, I haven't posted in eons. Good thing we have Pat around to keep us entertained!

On New Year's Day night, Pat and I headed up to Worcester to one of our favorite places, the Java Hut. They have live music, poetry readings, and open mic. When Pat and I head up there we are usually trying to catch the live music. On Saturday we saw a band called "Traphiq."

They were pretty good. By the time we got to the Java Hut, I think they were more than halfway done their set. The drummer and violinist played some "Irish Stuff," as they called it, that Pat and I really liked. I wish we had caught more of the show, I thought they would be playing later.

So the one thing about the Java Hut is that it gets Pat and I feeling a little old. Now I know we are stilll young, blah, blah, blah... But when you are in a room where the median age is about 18, the majority of people are dressed in retro 80's punk (that they weren't alive for the first time around), and the band members were born in 86... Well I can't help it, I feel ancient. Luckily we weren't the oldest people there.

Which reminds me of another time Pat and I went to the Java Hut a couple years ago... Somehow Pat and I didn't get the memo that it was "Lesbian Night" at the Java Hut. Pat was the only male in the room, which didn't dawn on us for a surprisingly long time. It was when the poetry reading started to get extremely, well how should I say... "GRAPHIC" that Pat and I looked around and realized that we were in the minority. Of course Pat and I didn't care, we just thought it was funny. And then the singer that performed that night was excellent. I wish I could remember her name! She had performed at the Lilith Fair.

So to wrap up because Pat just put french toast in front of me! The Java Hut is a fun place! Bye!
