Motorcycle Mystery

Posted by Kate on Tuesday, August 31, 2004

Hello All, This is Kate (I always feel like I should say that first, otherwise you would assume it was Pat until you got to the end.) So anyway. Recently there was a motorcycle accident on Rockland Ave. Pat and I heard a very loud motorcycle go by and then we saw the police lights in our window. So we went down to check out the action because that is the kind of nosy neighbors we are.

Then the next morning when Pat and I went for a walk we stopped by the place where it happened and speculated as to what caused the accident. There weren't any cars involved, just the bike. The guy went up on the sidewalk on one side of the street and then crashed into a stone wall on the other side of the street.

Then the next day we decided to take some photos of the crime scene (if it was a crime.) They had already moved some of the rocks, so I guess Pat and I wouldn't really make it on "Forensic Files." See the upside down F - that is where the front of the bike was found.

That H is where his head landed, which was quite a distance away on someone's front walkway. The poor guy missed a lot of grass to land on that pavement and now the people who live there permanantly have an H on their walkway.

Here is a goofy picture of Chris and I examining the crime scene. See the rock wall behind Chris' shoulder and then the steps up to the walkway where the guy landed on the left side of the picture.

So we have a few theories. The most obvious being of course -drunk crazy random guy.

Pat and my theory involves a small metal cover in the street that keeps popping up. We call it a manhole but really the hole is only big enough for a skunk. We think he was coming down the hill on the street perpendicular to Rockland, hit the cover and lost control.

Bob's theory is even more interesting. He thinks it could have been the ex- husband of a woman who lives directly across from where the accident took place. This story begins with a man fixing up a new house for his wife including an elaborate stone wall in front of their house. Then as soon as the man is done the construction he finds out his wife is cheating on him and he moves out and the new cheater moves in.

Then he drives by the house on his motorcycle regularly revving his engine to remind his ex-wife of the pain she caused. Only that night in his grief he lost control, crashing into the stone wall on the otherside of the street, just missing the stone wall he earlier constructed....

We may never know....But we check the paper every day Because that's the kind of neighbors we are.
