What the Hellboy?

Posted by Patrick on Wednesday, August 11, 2004

Based on a recommendation from the kids at A Whole Nother Studio, Kate and I rented Hellboy. Hellboy is the classic, touching story of a demon from another world, discovered by soldiers during the second world war and raised by the FBI to hunt monsters in the modern era.

Hellboy

Based on a comic book, Hellboy is the goodguy, and he does what he can to help his human friends. He's flawed in that he's a demon in a human's world, and feels the need to file down his horns so as not to stick out so much. He's heroic in that he fights the good fight, despite a demonish demeneor.

The movie was good, the special effects were pretty cool, especially this girl who keeps catching herself on fire (and not getting burned). Hopefully stunt men in the future won't have to really be on fire to look like they're on fire, thanks to computer animation... then again, this could be the end of self-fire-setting stuntmen.

Kate was able to score this rental for free, thanks to it being out-of-stock at Hollywood video. Back in the day, when a video rental meant VHS, a free video rental would be worth a buck. Now it's like 5 bucks, and I'm sure someday it'll be ten and I'll be too cheap to even rent, much less go the theatre and pay 40 bucks.
