Outdoor Show
Posted by Patrick on Sunday, June 24, 2007Friday night we got to see Harry Connick Jr at the Booth Amphitheatre, which is an outdoor concert kind of place. Our also-former-Yankee friends Kate and Peter invited us to go with them and hooked us up with nice table seat tickets and v.i.p. parking passes, making for an enjoyable evening.
The music was a good and unlike most of the concerts I've gone to, my ears are not ringing today. It was a nice night out!

Enjoying the Weather
Posted by Kate on Wednesday, April 18, 2007I just finished digging two more tree holes. So tiring! Of course getting up at 3:45am doesn't help with the energy thing. I brought Zoe out with me and hooked her up to her super long leash. Is it wrong that I have that leash attached to the bird feeder?
She was very good. Mostly because she was staying perfectly still to hide from the birds. At one point the bird feeder was full of birds and one landed in the grass about 3 feet from Zoe. I was so scared that she was going to get it. I clapped my hands, but they both ignored me. Luckily Zoe didn't strike and the bird flew away unharmed. I am so torn. I want to let Zoe hunt, but I desperately don't want her to actually catch anything. I love the birds. I think of them as my super low maintenance pets. Even easier than taking care of fish.
Luckily Zoe is not as stealthy as she thinks she is, partly because of the huge red leash she is dragging around. I didn't count on the birds being so oblivious though. The one that landed in the grass wasn't even eating off the ground, he was just waiting for a turn at the feeder. Crazy.

Happy Easter, Easter Bunny!
Posted by Kate on Sunday, April 08, 2007So our ambitious tree planting goals are on hold. It is much chillier than we were expecting. We have had frost the past couple of days. When people in New England speak about their own weather and say, "If you don't like the weather wait a minute," they clearly haven't spent much time in North Carolina. Last week high 80's, this week high 20's. Really all winter I had no idea when I woke up in the morning if I should wear short sleeves or a heavy coat. Then spring came and it was so warm and nice for so long and now it feels like winter again.
So instead of planting, I am baking. We are bringing cupcakes and pumpkin bread to Kate and Peter's today. Pat impressed me by finding Easter-themed cupcake papers. The pumpkin bread is baking right now and it smells so good! Is pumpkin bread just a fall/winter thing? Well it feels like winter, so we are going to have it.
Zoe has reached new heights of spoiledness. Not only does she beg me to put her harness on, now she begs to drink out of a regular glass. And I am not about to share with someone who sticks their tongue in my water, so she gets her own... Have I crossed a line? She's just so cute about it. I am a sucker.
But anyway, Happy Easter, eat some candy.

While spying on the new neighbor...
Posted by Kate on Saturday, April 07, 2007Our new neighbor is moving in! Exciting. I am guessing it might be a single guy, because so far I have only seen one person and there is a very small uhaul parked in the driveway. And right now he is unloading a twin size mattress. The house on the other side of him has sold, so we should have new neighbors there soon too. Plus the house down the street that looks a little like ours sold and new people moved in there too. Lots of new people. Very exciting.
I got a promotion at work. I am now lead sales associate. Not a big deal, I know, but hey more money is always good.
Today we are going to start digging up the yard with Kat and Matt's Mantis tiller, which they are so generously letting us borrow. We are getting ready to put in the back row of Juniper...
hmmm another man, just came out of the neighbor's house! Could this be a new neighbor too, or just a friend helping?
So what was I saying? Juniper trees. It is pretty chilly out this weekend, which works out well for us because those trees are pretty prickly. I have to work this afternoon unfortunately, so we will probably start planting trees on Easter. We have been invited to Easter dinner with Kate, Peter, and Andy. Mmm ham...

My Day Off
Posted by Kate on Tuesday, March 27, 2007Today was my day off after 6 days on. I guess thats how it works, when you have to work the weekend. There were so many things I wanted to accomplish today. I didn't even get half of it done.
I did get some pink snap dragons and another pink flower and planted them next to our mailbox. There are a few perennials there that have already come in, but not bloomed. I wonder what color they will be.
I also got Zoe a 20 foot leash that is made to train dogs. It is very handy. She likes to explore the yard at her own pace. Which means any time I get bored and decide to sit down she decides to move on and explore something else. Now with this super long leash we can both do our own thing while out in the yard.

Pets In The Weather This Monday

It is super nice outside today. I took off my jacket because it was too warm for it. Zoe had fun exploring the yard until a neighbor came outside. When of course she ran for the back door. But she definitely is getting braver. Yesterday it rained and she totally didn't understand it. Just kind of acted like I might be responsible for it and would I please knock it off so she could go out and explore?

Weekend Recap

My car is at the mechanics. Apparently my oil pan rusted through and is leaking. It is going to cost about $320 to fix. Really I should be happy that I haven't had to fix anything on my car in a long time. After all it is a 99. My Sentra has been good to me over the years. Having to find a new mechanic to trust is one of the down sides of moving. Also finding a new doctor and eye doctor and stuff like that, not fun.
Pat and I went for a few walks around the neighborhood this weekend. Pretty chilly out there, but it was good to get out and get some exercise.
I finished a baby quilt for a custom order. I like the way it came out. It has cute little dogs on it. I will have to take a picture of it before I send it out.
We rented Junebug and Talladega Nights. Pat gave a two thumbs down to Junebug and said he liked Talladega Nights more than he thought he would. I am not sure how I feel about Junebug. I wouldn't call it a favorite or anything, but I found it kind of interesting. I was the one who wanted to rent Talladega Nights, because I enjoy Will Ferrell. I thought this movie was alright. It definitely wasn't on par with Elf or Anchorman, but it was way better than Kicking & Screaming.
Today we finally had the locksmith come out and change our locks. Yay! I finally have my own key to our house! Moses got very freaked out by the locksmith. He apparently does not like tall men with hats who use power tools and leave doors open. He first decided to take cover under the couch and then fled upstairs where he lodged himself under Pat's desk behind his computer. When I went up to check on him, I found him back there visibly shaking. Poor thing. I wonder how long it will be before he decides it is safe to come back downstairs.

Injured
Posted by Kate on Sunday, November 05, 2006Yesterday Pat and I explored what will soon be our hometown. We drove all around and stopped in the downtown, got a coffee at the local coffee shop and wandered around. During this wandering I started feeling an aching pain in the arch of my right foot. We stopped into the local library and at that point I realized that the foot pain was getting worse.
Perhaps a six mile hike on pavement, out of the blue, had more of an effect on my body than I had imagined. I had planned on taking Pat to a trail that I discovered on my walk, but that was definitely canceled. Last night I sat around with my foot iced and elevated, but this morning it is still feeling bruised. No actual bruise...isn't that always the way? Bruises that I never feel show up all the time, but when I am actually in pain, no visible signs.
I am not sure why my arch hurts. Seems like if it was my sneakers' fault I would be feeling it in both feet. Strange and annoying, since there was all kinds of stuff I wanted to do this weekend and it all involved walking.

My legs throbbing a bit from yesterday's semi-exhausting-but-fun climb of Mount Monadnock. Kate will probably blog the details on Hike Club. It's been almost a year since the last time we climbed, and it's still a quality experience. {Pics}

Trout Power
Posted by Patrick on Sunday, April 02, 2006I put down the mouse for a bit today and actually got outside for some Hike Club action. Scott came with us, too. He reached into the Blackstone River and pulled out a rainbow trout!

Busy Day

Yesterday was a quality day. In the morning we went to Purgatory Chasm in Sutton for some Hike Club fun. We had a huge group and great weather. I also didn't fall down a steep rock-face, always a plus.

We then went to Thompson Speedway in Connecticut to watch my dad take some laps. My mom signed him up for a one-day racing school as an anniversary gift, and yesterday was the big day. After some training and a ride-along lap (with a skilled driver) they let him loose on the oval track. Kate and I got to watch from the pit area, and see him crawl in and out of the car Dukes-of-Hazard style. I was pretty jealous, and maybe someday I'll give it a try.

Hole in the Woods
Posted by Patrick on Tuesday, September 20, 2005Sunday we met up with Scott and headed to Woods Hole on the cape, for hike. It was a great day, lots of scenery walking along the bike path (lots of bikes, too.) Scott wrote up a quality write-up report of the day, including a harrowing tale of my decomposing sunglasses.

Cardigan
Posted by Patrick on Tuesday, August 16, 2005This past weekend Kate and I, along with Jeff and Scott climbed Mount Cardigan in New Hampshire.

Kate writes all about it in her Hike Club blog. The climb was great, with an amazing view. The way back down was kinda steep, warranting a stop at the Wrenthem Outlets on the way home to pick up some new hiking boots for future trips. My worn out Adidas just aren't mountainin' gear.
Kate and I camped at Cresent Campgrounds that night, which was ok, but not the best camping establishment ever. Two tents away was a father-of-the-year canidate, who insisted on dropping repeated f-bombs at his very young toddlers... who he felt the need to keep up past 11pm.
Other than that, a quality weekend in the woods.

VACATION!!!
Posted by Kate on Saturday, July 02, 2005Wahoo!! Pat and I are officially on vacation. We started it off right by swimming in a friends pool with our clothes on last night. I really need to start following my Grandfather's motto of keeping a bathing suit in your car all summer and ice skates all winter...
Here are our plans:
Today I am getting a massage. Sunday we are going to a cookout at my Mom's. Monday we may do something with Scott and FSC guys, but that hasn't been figured out yet. Tuesday and Wednesday we don't have any plans so you will probably find me reading and Pat on a computer, but if you are around give us a call. Thursday we are going to Provincetown and we are staying overnight there at a really beautiful condo with some friends who were nice enough to invite us to join in their vacation. Saturday, the 9th, is our first hike as Hike Club! Sunday we will be relaxing.
Yay vacation!

Hike Club Begins
Posted by Kate on Sunday, June 26, 2005Yesterday Pat, Kim, and I climbed Monadnock. It was great! All the pictures are in the gallery (along with photos of the time Pat and I climbed it in 1998).
We decided we wanted to start climbing regularly and to form a club, hence the title of this post. We will post some of the info here, but I started a new blog, just about "Hike Club" at www.hikeclub.blogspot.com.
