Black, White and Red all over

Posted by Patrick on Sunday, November 16, 2003

Last night brought Kate and I to Lupos in Providence to see the White Stripes. Lupos is a medium size club, located on Westminster street. The crowd was relatively peaceful, with the exception of a couple of rouge moshers and some weirdo standing behind Kate and I.

We found a good spot up in the balcony, and that provided a nice clear view, without some sweaty jock's head in front of us. The opening band was a little weird. They were The Whilrwind Heat. One drummer, one bass player, and a singer who occasionally hit the MOOG for some atari 2600 like sounds. Lots of bass. Nasal shaking bass. Painful, unfocused bass. They're anger was solid, and they looked like they enjoyed their craft, but the music seemed to contrast the more blues/rock feel of the Stripes.

So, after a 50 minute set change-up, the Stripes came on. They're a duo, Jack and Meg White. They have a red, white and black color theme that they adhere to strictly, from their clothes to their roadie's clothes. They played some quality tunes, including my fav's I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself and Girl, You Have No Faith In Medicine both from their most recent album. Kate prefers their last album.

Here's a tip: Bring earplugs to concerts.
