Posted by Kate on Wednesday, June 06, 2007I know you have all been missing the Kate and Zoe crafting stories... well maybe its just me...
I ordered some buttons from Sewing Stars, a Providence-based crafter. I am going to put them onto a new bag/pocket book I want to make. I decided one section of the bag will have a bunch of pin back buttons on it. So I started searching etsy for more buttons, which I am grumbling about having to pay more for shipping than buttons are worth, but without a big craft fair to go and scoop them up at, what am I going to do?
And then I decided to design my own! Very exciting! I ordered them from Kitty Crossbones on etsy. I get 100 pins with up to 10 different designs. I figured I would make a bunch of promos for Moses and Zoe and then the rest I will come up with designs that can sell in my shop and use for my bag.
I got out my currently very small button collection to see which of my fabrics they match.
Zoe promptly came over to supervise. I found it most amusing that she first pretended not to know that she had sat on anything at all and then was suddenly fascinated by what was under her.
What am I in the way?
On to more interesting things...

Money
Posted by Kate on Wednesday, March 07, 2007Hey I got a part-time job! Starting Friday I will be employed by a major arts and crafts store. Yay money!
Today is a big gluing day around here. I made some new Happy Spring Cards, some new Congratulations on Your Baby cards, and a bunch of new Robot cards. Exciting. I can't wait to get them all photographed and online!
Just another day at the Robot Factory...

Shop Update
Posted by Kate on Tuesday, February 27, 2007

I put some new cards up at MosesandZoe.com. Thank you notes this time. There are three different ones up now. One with pink birds, one with green birds, and one with pink, green, and yellow birds. Pat helped out big time with these. I gave him a sketch of what I wanted the background to look like and he used his graphic design skills to make it happen. Then I glued my little birds to the branches.
I also made some owls to put onto thank you notes. I am hoping to finish them up tomorrow.

Photos As Promised
Posted by Kate on Friday, February 23, 2007
Here are the work in progress stitches. I think they are all going to be items that you would hang on a wall, but I am still working out the details.
Here is the puppy quilt for the special order.
Here are both quilts all ready to go.
And silly Moses. He was watching Zoe and I out the window yesterday. So I figured why not give him a chance at it. I put the harness on him. He crawled away from the door and flopped down. I think he may have been playing dead. He didn't move until I took the harness back off of him. I guess I don't have to feel guilty for not taking him outside anymore.

mmmm hazelnut
Posted by Kate on Thursday, February 22, 2007I just dumped an entire mug of hazelnut coffee onto our couch and carpet. I accidentally knocked the mug off the arm rest and it flew everywhere, but the mug landed on the carpet right side up. Luckily the coffee missed the laptop and my embroidery. I just put the futon cover in the wash and got all of the coffee out of the carpet, but something tells me we will be smelling hazelnut for a while now.
So my car. They patched something for $40 and now it sounds fine again. Lucky for me that Pat is around to handle these things or I might have had to abandon my car on the highway like a true North Carolinian.
I have been an embroidering fool. I made a couple of my own patterns and I have been embroidering up a storm. I really don't like the word embroider. I suppose I could call it stitching but then you might think I was sewing... Soon I will have photos. I know I always say that, but really I mean it this time.

Good and Bad
Posted by Kate on Wednesday, February 21, 2007Things are not good with my car. They ended up charging us more than they quoted and now it is much louder than when I brought it in. I can't get the image out of my head of this news expose I saw, where a mechanic was beating on someone's car with a crowbar to make more money. Something is definitely different with my muffler than when I dropped it off. We are bringing it back over there at lunch time.
I have been working on some embroidery. I got a pattern at Sublime Stitching. It is much more fun and addictive than I remember. Gram tried to get me into when I was little. I still have my unfinished tea towel with a half a bunny on it. That was counted cross stitch though and this isn't.
This week has felt very 1940's with the quilting and embroidering and all. I made some more cards too.
Zoe is hooked on going outside with her harness on. We have been going out almost every day. She now meows at her harness to signal her wishes. She is so funny when I pick it up. She gets all excited and chirps and tries to stick her head through the harness opening. I really need to record it. She is definitely part dog.

Sugar Daze
Posted by Kate on Friday, February 16, 2007
I have been working on some new card ideas, one with the little birds pictured above. They are waiting in the lid from the chocolates that Mom gave me for Valentine's. I have eaten so much sugar in the past few days I think I am going to explode.
I made some cupcakes (I am using that term loosely) last night. It seems like cupcakes are everywhere online. I guess they are very "in" right now. My cupcakes unfortunately did not come out pretty and delicious looking. They were kind of a disaster. They still tasted good of course... But they weren't very photogenic. Maybe I should have taken some pictures anyway. They could have been edgy. New Ugly Cupcakes, how chic!

Sunday, and these Ladies are Out of Control
Posted by Patrick on Sunday, February 11, 2007Kate and her mom have not been slacking during their time together. They made lots of cards, sewed and crafted quite a bit. Yesterday I carted them around to a couple of craft stores and a craft show, then to visit Kat and then to visit Carol and Kevin.
Kate also made some sales this weekend in her shop. If you haven't checked it out recently, there's lots of cool stuff there.
Today I slept in a bit and spent a good portion of the day removing grout in our shower. Some of the grout around the tiles had cracked, so it was time for regrouting. Is regrouting a world? Better to take care of it now then in the future. It's nice to have a second shower, that's for sure. Kate and her mom went to Home Depot (amoungst other stores) to pick up supplies for this project.

Mom's In Town
Posted by Kate on Friday, February 09, 2007My Mom flew down here on Wednesday, so I haven't had much time to post lately. We have been busy shopping at the outlets, making Valentine's cards, signing up for a library card and then looking through sewing books.
We still plan on sewing, grouting, spray painting, and going to the Handmaiden's latest show "Raleigh loves Richmond: A Valentine's Craft Affair."
More updates later.

Owls and Cats and Bears, Oh My
Posted by Kate on Friday, February 02, 2007This past week I have been busy writing owl stories, working on a baby quilt as part of a custom order, trying to make a stuffed animal of my own design, and Pat's birthday stuff.
The stuffed animal is going to be a cat. Surprise, surprise. The body actually came out pretty well... The head on the other hand, not so good. Back to the drawing board. Its not that my design was bad. Its just that my design would have been better for an expert seamstress. Which I am not quite yet. Straight lines, I've got down. Tiny curves on the inside of a small piece of fabric...well I still need to work on that. So for now I am thinking I need to design an easier to sew head.
Next week my Mom is coming! Yay. There are so many projects I want to work on with her its crazy. I should make a list.
Today is the last day of Owl-A-Day week.
Here's Liam.
And here is Julian.

Writing Is Hard
Posted by Kate on Wednesday, January 31, 2007When I sat down to post Woodrow on Etsy, I thought, this owl needs a story. So I wrote one. Now I am writing a story a day for each owl. And let me tell you- it is hard. I haven't had to do anything like this since Creative Writing in high school.
Here is Octavia. If you like time travel and skeptical owls, you will like this story.

Willow
Posted by Kate on Tuesday, January 30, 2007The new Owl Art Card is up at MosesandZoe.com. Let me tell you this owl is looking for more exposure. When I was listing it on Etsy, I guess I hit the back button or something it didn't like, because suddenly she was listed twice, so I tried to delete one and they both disappeared, so I had to enter all the info again. And then when I was going to upload the photo here at Rockland-Ave, it was taking a really long time and I thought maybe it wasn't processing so I hit submit again and suddenly I had multiple photos of her here too.
Willow, she's one friendly owl. Just go here to read all about it.

pictuRES
Posted by Kate on Wednesday, January 24, 2007I was taking photos today of the Owl Art Cards
and somebody just couldn't resist the spotlight...
I also took a little video in which I happened to speak. I was so surprised by my own voice. I am always amazed at the idea that people think I sound like that, but this time I even caught my RI accent busting out. And here I am always priding myself on not having much of an accent. There was a clear "pictya" where a picture should have been...
